To date, we have filmed three 10-day backcountry trips with Steve into wilderness-eligible areas in southern Utah. Our completed field interviews include leaders in the environmental movement and thoughtful conversations with those who know Steve best. We have gathered footage of the landscapes and cultural sites at the heart of the film, as well as examples of the threats they face.

We have established a partnership with the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA), a nonprofit organization, to support America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act through this film; this legislation would designate more than 8 million acres of Bureau of Land Management land in Utah as Wilderness, the highest form of protection for federal lands. We are actively pursuing partnerships with additional, aligned organizations to build an enthusiastic audience that will ensure the film achieves maximum impact once it’s released.

Help us Spread the Word

With funds secured, we will begin editing and utilizing post-production facilities to add the finishing touches and make a professional documentary film (30-45 mins). Funds will also support custom graphic design, an original film score, and development of a comprehensive marketing distribution strategy that will ensure that A Life in the Desert is viewed widely to inspire action for years to come.
